new years preview

Have spent alll day making my costume for new years. It is jungle theme so I will be working the bar dressed as a monkey!
Here is one part of it, massively inspired by merrimaking. Was going to attach the hood to the top but it all got a bit too complicated and then i found the lovely ribbon and decided to just make the hood separate!
My head is so warm right now!

christmas

Have spent the past week in a caravan in Cornwall with my family eating massive amounts of chocolate, cake and fatty food, walking dogs on the beach and watching christmas TV. Always good, though I do think it is time to go back to civilization tomorrow as I have yet to see anyone since I got back from Plymouth last week!
Starting to get very excited about new years, I am working at Fieldview New Years Party. Basically a one night only smaller version of the festival near me with many DJ's in a massive tent with cheap cider and a jungle theme! Doing 3 hours on the bar and at midnight I will be free to enjoy the festivities until 6am-amazing!
Also have decided to make some kindof fur lion playsuit with ears. Hoping I can get that done in a day using my sisters onesie as a pattern, watch this space...

christmas biscuits

Ingredients

  • 300g plain flour
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp mixed spice
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 100g unsalted butter , softened
  • 200g golden caster sugar
  • 1 large egg , beaten

  1. Sift the flour, baking powder, spices and a pinch of salt together. Cream together the butter and sugar until pale and fluffy, then gradually beat in the egg. Add the dry ingredients and mix thoroughly. Add a tsp of cold water to bring the dough together if you need to. Press into a disc, wrap and chill for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Heat the oven to 180C/fan 160C/gas 4. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to the thickness of a £1 coin and, using cookie cutters, stamp out shapes. Lift onto parchment-lined baking sheets and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until pale golden in colour.

Stolen from here I just skipped the icing bit and dipped them in chocolate and praline mix.

mess and more mess

So haven't posted here in forever! but i got my mess book out this week for the first time in months and have been doing pretty much a page a day to cope with the craziness of this week!
Am doing an animation for my final piece in my current module, and now i have the storyboard done i have a huuuge list of things to draw properly, all in the same style, and my brain is starting to melt! So here is the result of that, and a page by Jordan, as he was having a bad day :)

Ok the last image is Ody's from life drawing, just cos it made me laugh lots how he adapted a nice rubber drawing in charcoal to a naked man who hates batman!

Illustration blog!!!

Hey everyone. So have been thinking about this for a while. This blog has ended up being more about my personal life than my artwork! And therefore i have decided to set up a new one purely for my illustration work! Please head over to http://josiejumpillustration.blogspot.com/ and follow me if you are interested!I will still use this one, just more for crazy ramblings and photos :)

S'mores and new shoes

Hmm so here is what i have been up to the past week or so. The boyfriend came to visit for a few days which meant doing a few crazy things including lots of interesting food. Baked bean, bacon and sweetcorn pizza (which i didnt eat and slightly fell apart), scones with clotted cream and jam, pimms, and S'mores.
Havent had s'mores for years! We made a campfire in the garden and toasted marshmallows before squashing them onto chocolate digestives, it was unbelievably awesome!
Have been trying to be more healthy recently i think i went slightly off track a few times this week... Spent today shopping in swindon outlet centre with my best friend. I planned on finding some nice sensible leather boots... ended up with an amazing pair of leather converse from footlocker! Not what i was looking for but i love them all the same!

lots of hairbands

I am already unbelievably bored of being at home. However this does mean i get on with important jobs such as updating my folksy shop with the hairbands i made aaaages ago! I secretly want to keep them all but my bank account is a little sad recently so i figured i should try and sell some things!

happy 4th of July!

Ok this is perhaps 2 days late but nevermind. I have been off all over the place the past couple of weeks! Went to France for a week with my uni flatmates and their friends, there ended up being about 15 of us all helping my flatmates parents with odd jobs and building work on their barn. Was great fun, especially the evenings spent eating large amounts of food and drinking even larger amounts of very cheap wine!
Flew back into London and went straight to visit my friend Hannah who had a load of us to stay for some partying and celebration for her birthday and to say goodbye before she goes off to america for uni next year (jealous much!)
So we had a couple of nights out in Windsor, lots of Pimms and jelly shots! Went for a boat ride down the river, cream teas at the Duchess of Cambridge, and a night out in London, american themed for independence day!!!
I went out dressed as Miss America, almost forgot it was the 4th only to be reminded by the many americans in the texass embassy bar who all thought we were very patriotic americans! "OMG are you miss america?" "yes... im english.." awkward! Ah well they seemed impressed by our efforts at joining in the celebration!

early illustration work

Was going through all my childhood school work yesterday as my parents were clearing out our loft! Found some pretty interesting stuff! Including some early drawings, its worrying how similar some of the drawings bear similarity to thing i have drawn the past year...

This last image is from a speedy life drawing session we had, the sausage fingers are the same ;)

pizza hut-nom

Had an awesome night at the summer ball last night, campus looked amazing with all different music marquees, fairground rides and twinkly lights! Watched the Wombats play, they were even better than the first time i saw them 2 years ago at radio 1's big weekend. Ran into one of my best friends in the crowd who was passing around hip flasks with whisky and tequila in-ergh. Two of my least favourite spirits! By 4am i was absolutely shattered but our whole flat went home to change and then walked to the hoe to watch the sunrise, which should have looked something like this:

but actually it was a little bit too cloudy and freezing so this is the view we got:

ah well. Got up at about 1 and ordered pizza hut stuffed crust pizza which was an absolute godsend! all in all a good way to finish the year :)

summer ball preparations

So today, I started off trying to clear out my room in halls to get rid of all the crap before i pack up and leave uni. In the end i got distracted by all the random spare fabric i had left from customizing random clothes all year. Decided to make some hair bands for my online store. Made a load of plaited ones in different colours and they came out rather nicely!

Got my dress for tomorrow from a tiny charity shop in plymouth called the pepperpot. It has a 50p rail outside which i always seem to get random exciting things from, in this case it was an 80s style prom dress with a broken net petticoat! I have now fixed the petticoat and shortened it all, surprised at how it actually worked in the end, can barely breath in it but thats another matter...

Also today i got my friend jess over to make some vodka jellies, we then got carried away and decided to also make skittles vodka, and put wine gums in the jellies to make them even better! All in all it has been a very successful day :) now all i need to do is get some good sleep ready for the 9 hour insanity tomorrow!!! oh, and breakfast at 24 hour diner goodbodys at 4am, standard!

weelie chair races

So, have spent the last 2 days getting the studio ready for our final show! Yesterday we collectively painted 92 boards whilst wearing bin bag dresses and splattering white emulsion everywhere! also having weelie chairs in an empty studio is the most fun EVER. I turn into a 5 year old when i sit on one and get pushed around!
Still not exactly sure what i am putting up since we have two boards to fill which is an insane amount of space! Just got this printed which is an image i did for my dads cd cover! It was inspired by my parents trip to Alaska and being in the wilderness!

nearly finished

I have my last assessment tomorrow, which means, with the exception of our end of year show, i have finished my first year of uni! I celebrated this yesterday by going out for a huge dessert with the boyf, awesome :) and then half price pizza today, even better. Considering i am not using the gym or doing cheerleading anymore this is pretty terrible but ahh well.
Had a "bring a boy day" at cheer on saturday, our last session which involved everyone bringing people to try some stunting, jumps and tumbling. This ended up being pretty much all the american footballers, and a few others. Pretty hilarious trying to teach guys twice the size and strength of me to base! On the flipside i did get to base a guy which made me feel slightly less weak!
Anyho, though i would put up some things i've been doing recently including some chinese painting from a class i did, some etching prints, and my final editorial piece for my last project!
